DO YOU OFFER STUD SERVICE TO OUTSIDE GIRLS?
We do offer stud service to select girls. We are extremely selective about which girls our boys are bred to, as we prioritize the integrity and improvement of the gene pool.
We do not allow live covers under any circumstance. All breedings are performed via artificial insemination, either frozen or side by side. We work exclusively with 2 reproductive veterinarians.
You may choose a side-by-side at one of our two reproductive veterinarians at your expense, AI with frozen semen stored at either veterinarian at your expense. Or Frozen semen shipped directly to your veterinarian at your expense.
WHY ARE YOU SO PICKY ABOUT WHAT GIRLS YOU BREED YOUR BOYS TO?
Our philosophy is that a breed is only as strong as it’s weakest link. We would be doing our breed no favors if we participated in the production of genetically sub-par dogs. Our mission is to improve the breed’s gene pool as a whole, and this cannot be done by producing genetically inferior dogs.
WHAT IS YOUR STUD SERVICE FEE?
The stud service fee for most of our dogs is $2,500, plus vet costs. Stud service fee must be paid in full before breeding.
DON’T MOST BREEDERS CHARGE PER PUPPY AFTER THE PUPS ARE BORN?
In some breeds and some circles, it is normal to charge a breeding fee at time of breeding then a per puppy fee for each puppy born alive and lives for a set amount of time.
We do not do this. A stud service fee is based on the stud dog’s value as a breeding dog. He is not less valuable as a breeding dog if your girl only has 1 or 2 pups, or kills the litter after birth, than if she has a dozen pups, and they all thrive.
The fact is, we cannot control how your girl is cared for during pregnancy and during whelping and the early weeks. We, therefore, have no control over how many pups she can have, how many are still born, or die shortly after birth. We can’t even control that with our girls, so you can imagine it’s impossible to do so for a girl that isn’t under our care and control.
This is why we don’t guarantee that puppies will be born alive, or will live to a certain age.
WHAT ARE YOUR REQUIRMENTS?
Our requirements are as follows:
Purebred Malamute, and registered with a legitimate registry in her country
Microchip identification
DNA profiled through her registry
Fully health tested, meeting or exceeding CHIC requirements
At least 1 BOB win in any AKC/CKC/UKC show
OR
any CAC title from FCI,
OR
any title from IABCA.
OR
At least 2 novice or 1 intermediate working titles issued by AMCA
OR
At least 2 advanced sport or performance titles issued by any legitimate registry.
OR
Proof of LEGITIMATE service dog certification from a legitimate service dog organization.
OK, SO MY GIRL MEETS YOUR CRITERIA. WHAT NOW?
Review the stud service contract located on our FORMS page. Print and fill out the stud service questionnaire and either re-scan it to email or take pictures and text or email the pictures. Send proof of titles, certifications, and health testing.
As soon as your girl begins to show signs of heat cycle, (swelling, spotting, etc.) you should begin to get the following tests:
Brucella Canis Profile (IFT and RSAT) from TVMDL
CP-16 Canine Lost Pregnancy Profile from Health Gene
Guarded Cervical Culture
You must remember that these tests may take some time for results, so you should begin these as soon as possible. As we do not do live cover breedings, you may choose to opt out of these tests or still breed if any results are positive. However, if these tests are not all done, or if any of the tests are positive, we will not grant a return service if the breeding does not take.
You have to remember that with AI, it is critical to do multiple progesterone tests to pinpoint ovulation. You need to let us know at each of the following levels:
0.94 ng/ml - we will begin the process of planning the shipment or a day off to plans for a trip to our vet for a side by side AI.
4.09 - 5.66 ng/ml - ovulation time. You should pinpoint 28 days from today for the Relaxin test and 58 days from today for x-ray.
10.06 - 20.13 ng/ml eggs are mature enough for fertiliation. This is where she should be inseminated.
DO YOU OFFER REPEAT BREEDINGS?
If you obtained the three tests and all three were negative, AND your girl did not reach her 6th birthday prior to whelp due date, AND was inseminated when progesterone levels are between 10.16 and 20.13, she is eligible for a return service if the breeding does not take.
If the Relaxin test at 28 days post ovulation is negative, you must send us the report and we will plan for a repeat breeding between the same girl and stud dog at the next cycle.
If the Relaxin test is positive, but the 58 day x-rays are negative, you must send us the report form the vet along with digital copies of the x-rays, showing no puppies. We will again plan for a repeat breeding between the same girl and stud dog at the next cycle.
If the 58 day x rays show puppies, we consider that a successful breeding and no repeat breeding will be offered. Even 1 puppy, born dead or alive constitutes a successful breeding.
If your veterinarian determines that your girl should not be bred at the next cycle, the return service will be granted at the first cycle after your vet clears her.
If she is unavailable at the next cycle for reasons other than medical reasons, we will allow the service at the following cycle.
If she is not available at the following cycle, we will allow a breeding to another girl of your choosing as long as she meets our criteria.
If our stud dog is unavailable, we reserve the right to grant the return service to another stud dog of our choosing to your girl.
IF I AM LOCAL, CAN I BRING MY GIRL OVER FOR A LIVE COVER?
We do not allow live covers at all. If you are local, we do allow a side by side AI, or AI with previously stored semen at one of our vets, or we can ship frozen semen to your veterinarian.
Our stud dogs are already DNA profiled through AKC, and since that is one of our requirements, your girl has also been profiled. But you will have to DNA profile the puppies.
IF I HAVE 2 GIRLS, CAN I SPLIT THE SEMEN BETWEEN THEM?
No. Splitting semen to produce 2 litters from one breeding is strictly prohibited. If you attempt this, we will not sign the litter registration, report to the AKC that this is fraudulent, and we will not allow you to get another stud service from us.
HOW DO YOU SIGN THE LITTER REGISTRATION IF WE DON’T DO A LIVE COVER?
When the litter is born, you must fill out the proper litter registration form online. (frozen semen, or fresh semen) When we are notified that the litter has been submitted, we will authorize the registration. We do not, under any circumstances, sign paper applications.
CAN I USE YOUR KENNEL NAME TO REGISTER THE PUPPIES?
No. We do not allow our kennel name to be used in the registration of any dog or puppy we did not produce or own.
WHAT IF I DO A DUAL-SIRED LITTER?
We can’t control if you do or do not do a dual sired litter. However, if your girl was bred to another stud dog, either accidentally or intentionally, there will be no return service given, even if the breeding does not take.
There is no way of knowing if our stud dog would have produced puppies if it had not been for the other stud dog.
WHAT ARE YOUR STIPULATIONS FOR PUPPY SALES AND CARE?
We do not interfere with your breeding program or puppies. Yes, they are the offspring of our stud dog, and we care about them, but the fact remains, they are not our puppies. Those are YOUR puppies. It was YOUR girl’s life that was put on the line. It is YOUR blood, sweat, and tears that went into caring for them and mom.
We have no claim to any puppies or control over your litter.
WHAT ABOUT PICK OF THE LITTER?
No. we do not accept puppies back in lieu of stud service fees. Accepting a puppy instead of the fee creates multiple problems.
Breeders frequently give early picks to friends, family, acquaintances, or buyers that pay extra for first picks. This often leaves us with the last pick, which may unsuitable for our program. Also in the case of a small litter, it often leads to hurt feelings because one of the puppies is guaranteed to the stud dog owner, so the breeder may have nothing to sell or keep.
For this reason, we only accept a stud service fee. For an exceptional litter, and if one or more puppies genuinely fit our breeding program, we may consider refunding the stud service fee and taking a puppy instead, but this is actually quite rare.
