Zia came to us from Aventuras en Alaska Kennel in Kharkov, Ukraine. As a distinguished former show dog, she was the ultimate matriarch, impressively shown in AKC rings, though without breed competition, she had no points to her name. Nevertheless, she did earn her IABCA Honor Champion Silver title, highlighting her exceptional pedigree in this dog breed biography.

With a sassy, mouthy, and opinionated demeanor, Zia never hesitated to express her thoughts. She was the ultimate escape artist; if confinement was not on her agenda, she would find a way out. Once in the backyard, she'd dig, jump, or climb over the fence just to sit at the front door, barking at us for the audacity of leaving her outside away from her humans. Similarly, if she didn't want to be in her crate, she'd make it clear that she would not stay in there.

An emergency spay due to pyo sadly ended her show career and prevented her from being bred, but she spent her last couple of years as a cherished family pet at SouthernStar Kennels until we lost her to a snake bite on February 4, 2026.
